Google update for mobile searches
Google will be making some changes this month to how rankings are worked out when searches are done from mobile devices.
What will be changing?
Rankings in mobile search results will change from April the 21st to prioritise mobile friendly sites. This makes sense as if someone is searching from a phone, they will have the best user experience when visiting a site that will display most effectively on a phone.
How to test your site
Google have a number of guidelines available for developing mobile friendly sites and also offer this testing tool to see how compatible a site is: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/
Don’t panic!
If your site does not pass the mobile friendly test, it will only affect searches done from mobile devices. Depending on your target market, your potential customers may not all be using mobile devices. Your site can usually be upgraded to be more mobile friendly. Depending what you have already this could mean some small tweaks or possibly a new Responsive design that changes shape for various screens.
