Are you following the Distance Selling Regulations?

If you run a UK based online ecommerce website selling products, you’ll need to be aware of the Distance Selling Regulations (DSR). To comply with these you will need to have a clear policy on the following:

  • You must give customers clear information including details of your goods or services offered, delivery arrangements and payment, the supplier’s details and the customer’s cancellation right before they buy (known as prior information)
  • You must also provide this information in writing
  • The customer has a cooling-off period of seven working days.
This information should be present on your website and made clear to your customers. It’s important to be clear about who pays the postage on returns to avoid misunderstanding.

This information ties in to your Terms and Conditions, so also ensure that your Ts&Cs are clear and you know them inside out. It can be tempting to copy and paste Ts&Cs off the internet, but make sure they are relevant to the UK and you know them inside out!
